My husband and 15 year old daughter sign up for a Jujitzu class about a month ago. Brazilian Jujitsu also called BJJ by those in the trade is a form of martial arts that is fun to watch. I began my interest in mixed martial arts or MMA around 2 years ago when I began watching UFC and quickly became a fan of the talented Matt Hughes. You may have heard of cage fighting? Well thats what this is. If you have never watched UFC and you are a fan of wrestling, boxing or and type of martial arts you will want to take a look.
Since the owner of the dojo and th
e instructor, works with my husband he gave us a discount on the pricing and allows them to come 3x a week for the same price and going once a week. We needed to purchase a few items to have them ready for their first class. First is the Gi or the uniform they wear while fighting. Over on the left you can see what a Gi looks like. Theirs is white but they come in many other colors as well. They are made out of 100% cotton fibers and can only be hung out to drip dry. I learned the hard way not to put them in the dryer when my husbands shrunk so much that the sleeves didn't reach his wrist anymore. These Gi's are heavy and have very thick reinforced collars and knee pads. I have learned that the opponent uses the Gi against you by grasping these collars and sleeves and holding on tight while they roll you around on the ground. Doesn't sound fun to me but my husband and daughter are bursting at the seams to get out the door when it is class time. Besides these Gi's my husband has to wear what they call compression shorts. I think these speak for themselves. Inside the compression shorts they also have a pocket to place the cup that is worn in a jock strap. Now my daughter on the other hand has to wear a sports bra and a high neck close fitting t-shirt. I have been told that we need to get both of them what they call under armor t-shirts. So I went looking for them online. This one I found a Nordstrom's is a close fitting one that has moisture wicking. Not bad for only $34.00. The point in wearing an under armour t-shirt is so that when your opponent is grabbing at your collar they will not be able to easily grab your t-shirt underneath which will only stretch it out and ruin it.
Now that they have gone to class for a month and practiced around 12 times ro so they are beginning to get the hang of it I got them to get geared up at home so I could take a
